GOP hypocrite?

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is hitting the road in a "gently used" RV. This coming from the same party that blasted then-Governor Evan Bayh for his "Capital for a Day" program. Give me a break!

When Democrat Evan Bayh was governor from 1989 to 1997, he had a program called "Capital for a Day," in which he would travel periodically to various Indiana cities along with other members of his administration to meet with residents and local officials.

Republicans blasted the trips, saying they were nothing more than a public-relations gimmick and a waste of taxpayers' money.

Daniels is revving up Bayh's concept by both traveling more frequently and by giving the program a billboard-on-wheels approach with the RV.

Democrats are not the do-nothing party!Evan Bayh spoke with the U.S. News and World Report:

"If we become the do-nothing party, we become the default party," says Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, a "red state" Democrat. "We only win leadership when the other guys fail if we stand for nothing." Sure, he asks, "should the president be required to put forward a program first? Absolutely. But then should we have an alternative? Yes."

Senator Russ Feingold is flattered of the talk concerning 2008 that includes him. Not so flattered is Jon Stewart, who has said things are better when Jews are not in control. I'm not sure if that was a comedy joke or if he was serious when he said that.

Yet, Feingold insists it's far too early to say whether he might be a candidate four years from now.

"I would hope that nobody seriously decides that for a couple of years because I don't think a person can really know if they want to run for president responsibly until they know what the world looks like and they compare it to their abilities," Feingold said last week. "To do it now strikes me as a little arrogant."

He said he's not mulling the possibility "any more than I'm required to in case people ask me about it.

"I am trying to do my job ... and to try to help the party turn this thing around. I'm not thinking down some sort of chessboard."

Observers say he could mount a credible run for the office. He won handily re- election to the Senate in November against Republican challenger Tim Michels, outpolling Kerry by five percentage points.

Senator Evan Bayh will be California-bound soon. No idea as to where in California.

Democratic grass roots shift the power. Some are worried that the left will have too much...others in the moderate wings are afraid to speak for fear that the party is going some place else...
