I think any home games for the Louisville Bats this week will be delayed or postponed due to weather.

John Edwards, like myself, is keeping busy. I still believe he should have run for re-election.

Edwards, 51, has visited at least 15 states since January. Saturday he speaks to Tennessee Democrats in Nashville. He'll visit at least eight more states in the coming months. He declined to say if he's running for office, only that he's doing things and "We'll see where that leads."

Edwards' whirlwind schedule does little to dampen speculation that he's in full sprint toward a 2008 campaign for the White House, an office that eluded him as both a presidential candidate and Sen. John Kerry's running mate last year.

For the Council on Foreign Relations, he'll co-chair a task force on Russian-American policy with former Republican vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp. Some see that, along with his London trip, as efforts to burnish his resume in an area some considered deficient.

"That was a glaring weakness," said Stuart Rothenberg, a Washington political analyst. "A lot of people believe that if you can't pass the smell test on foreign relations and security issues, you can't win a presidential election..."

Coaches Joe B. Hall and Denny Crum have spread their show around the state. I listen in when I can.

The sports talk show, hosted by former University of Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall and former University of Louisville coach Denny Crum, will air on 21 stations throughout the state starting Monday. Eight additional stations plan to pick it up by the end of June.

The show will be syndicated to Kentucky News Network affiliates. The AM stations will broadcast Joe B. and Denny from 10 a.m. to noon five days a week, except in Hopkinsville, where it will air 5 to 7 p.m., and Lexington, where the show will remain at 8 to 10 p.m. on WLAP-630 AM, where it moved in April.

"When this began, there was a great deal of interest in why these guys would be doing this. They're not supposed to like each other," said the show's manager, Dick Robinson, adding that the hosts are longtime friends. "It's a feel-good show. They don't bash coaches and call for resignations."

President Bush asks Chris Cox to chair the SEC. Can we have it scandal-free this time, gang?

Moving quickly to fill a high-profile regulatory vacancy, President Bush intends to nominate Rep. Christopher Cox to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Republican officials.

Cox, R-Calif., a conservative veteran of 16 years in Congress with wide-ranging policy interests, would succeed William Donaldson, who announced Wednesday he was stepping down on June 30 after a two-year tenure marked by efforts to restore investor confidence in markets shaken by corporate excess.

Donaldson was an activist who often clashed with traditional business allies. They chafed over what they perceived as an excessive regulatory zeal during his tenure.

Cox would be the second House Republican picked this spring for a top administration post. Rob Portman was an Ohio congressman before his confirmation as U.S. Trade Representative in late April.

A host of celebrities turned out to watch Ewan McGregor make his debut in the West End musical Guys and Dolls.

McGregor’s former Star Wars co-star Natalie Portman was at the Piccadilly Theatre to watch the Scottish actor play Sky Masterson.

The 34-year-old former Trainspotting actor delighted the audience by singing on the London stage.[...]

McGregor sang famous musical numbers like "Luck Be A Lady" and "My Time Of Day."

McGregor said during rehearsals for the West End show: "I do find it daunting going back to live theatre after movies."

McGregor showed no sign of first-night nerves, despite recently saying: "I can’t wait but I’ll really have to master the stage fright."

McGregor said at the after-show party: "It’s a lovely show for us to perform. It’s so well-written and so well-paced."

He added: "I’ve been singing these songs for a long time now so they’ve got bedded into my voice.

"The first night can sometimes be a bit uptight but tonight was fantastic.

"I’ve performed for Joan Collins, how cool is that?

"It’s such a privilege to be in Guys and Dolls and to come offstage and see the audience with a smile on their faces."

He said of his former co-star Natalie Portman: "I didn’t know she was in there."

Bayh supporter speaks out!

Elder is also is a future supporter of Evan Bayh potential candidacy for president. Bruce had also read that I was an Evan Bayh fan within the pages of the AFP Blue Dog Tales.

Elder said, "His dad, Birch Bayh, was a hero of mine."

Blue Dog note: Evan Bayh's father was the legislative originator for the 1970s Equal Rights Amendment for women, which didn't exactly pass the 50-state constitutional smell test, but we both agreed on the son's potential and the possibilities.

"I really think Evan Bayh is a remarkable guy. I think he and Barak Obama are the future of the Democratic Party," commented Elder.

In that case, does that make Bruce Elder a moderate-to-conservative politician?

After all, Democrats in Indiana put forth a resolution to call for impeaching Bayh because he voted Bush's war, taxes and whatever else they didn't support.

Elder commented on where he stood politically: "Being a self-employed person, from that standpoint, in order for a business to survive, you need to be careful with money. I have an unusual business, so I haven't been able to have the banks throw money at the venture. You have to be well-centered individual for this kind of thing."
