Benefit Concert Update and other things

Just wanted to update you all. I spoke with Dean Kelso today and he said that there will be a massive concert over at UC or XU as obviously, it's going to be too big for NKU. The facilities over there seat 10,000-13,000. As of now, it's slated for November and with basketball season getting underway soon, the concert will be scheduled around that, but it will be happening.

That's the update I have for you all right now.

Good news for the St. Louis Cardinals! After missing 53 games, Reggie Sanders has been activited from the disabled list. The magic number is 6 as of before the game to clinch the NL Central. Chris Carpenter starts tomorrow and Jason Marquis takes the mound on Wednesday.

The Boston Red Sox play Toronto. Today marks the anniversary of Carl Yastrzemski's 3,000th hit off of New York pitcher Jim Beattie. Yaz became the first player to accomplish the feat of 3,000 hits and 400 home runs.

I know that we have someone that can defeat Ernie.

The Associated Press via WNBC 4 reviews Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. The latest album from Paul McCartney hits the record shops and retail outlets tomorrow here in the states. The review is great!

Politics will be the reason for how long the efforts take to rebuild the casinos down there.

Senator Evan Bayh faces a touch decision on John Roberts.

For Evan Bayh, this is more complicated than just figuring out whether John Roberts will be an effective chief justice. He is also balancing home state concerns and presidential ambition.

Indiana Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) introduced Roberts to his Senate colleagues with an endorsement of the Roberts nomination. "Simply put, John Roberts is a brilliant lawyer and jurist with an extraordinary record of accomplishment and public service," said Lugar.

Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) spoke next but was careful to stay neutral. "As a fellow Hoosier I am proud that someone from our state would be so talented and so successful to be considered for a position on the highest court of our land," said Bayh.

Bayh is looking to run for president and Democratic primary voters will be watching his nomination vote closely.

Democrat Ann DeLaney says Bayh could vote against Roberts despite the latter’s Hoosier roots. "If he doesn't think it’s the right pick, of course he can. The fact that people read into the fact that he was introducing him...he's been saying for years that there isn't enough civility in politics in Washington and the fact that he was asked would guarantee that, but that does not guarantee his support."

The decision is made tougher by the fact that Roberts is now up for the top job on the Supreme Court. "Growing up I never imagined that I would be here in this historic room nominated to be the chief justice," said Roberts.

Republicans, meantime, are predicting that Bayh will eventually support Roberts and then oppose the person who is nominated to replace Sandra Day O'Connor.

"He can do this on this one and fight the fight on the next one and I think that's what he's all about," said Mike McDaniel, a Republican.

Consider that Bayh is trying to convince Democrats that he can win Republican crossover votes. A vote for Roberts might enhance that perception. Yet if he runs for president he must also attract Democratic primary voters who tend to be liberal. That may be the source of his indecision.

Evan, as it was said on the big screen in 1977, "you must do what you feel is right of course."

Mazel Tov to Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond!

Fey, co-anchor of Weekend Update, the fake news desk of SNL, gave birth Saturday in New York to a daughter, Alice Richmond, an NBC spokesman said Monday.

"Safe, home, happy, thrilled to death," said Marc Liepis, a spokesman for the sketch comedy show. The baby weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces, he said.

Fey, 35, and her husband, Jeff Richmond, were married in 2001. Fey has been head writer at SNL for five years; Richmond is a composer for the show.

She will take a brief maternity leave from Saturday Night Live, which premieres its 31st season Oct. 1.
