I go offline to observe...

Yep, I've been offline in observance of Rosh HaShanah. I observe both days of the Holiday unlike many in the tribe. Apparently, Tom Delay got indicted again.

Two Jewish Senators are leading the efforts to protect consumers for the oil industry concentration. Fourteen Senators have also signed on.

It's the most wonderful time of the year. The Jewish Holidays have started once again. My Cardinals...and Red Sox...are in the playoffs. It doesn't get better than that, aside from my 21st birthday coinciding with Kol Nidre. Baseball is our past time. It's the only sport where you'll find a president throwing the first pitch. While it's not a constitutional requirement, the President always throws out the first pitch at some ball park.

Tony LaRussa celebrated his 61st birthday with a win last night. Chris Carpenter picked up the win yesterday. He is now tied with Red Schoendienst with 483 wins at Busch Stadium. Carpenter became the 3rd pitcher from New Hampshire to win a post-season game in the major leagues. The Cardinals beat the Padres 8-5.

The Red Sox were blown out 14-2. Matt Clement was hit by a ball but recovered safely. When Boomer starts, the Red Sox win. We'll see what happens tonight.

Ryan Alessi writes about how KDP is in turmoil. Well, we should have candidates already announcing their intentions to run in every district. I'm doing all that I can. I'd be running if I were eligible! Next to Mark Nicholas, I am the leading blogger in this state with regards to Kentucky Democrats. I'm not sure of the statistics on Ralph Long's blog, Long Way Home.

Sen. Evan Bayh has not made a decision yet on Harriet Miers. Miers is the first nominee since Rehnquist to not hold any judicial positions.

Senator Evan Bayh -- who voted against John Roberts' confirmation as chief justice last week -- says Miers is a competent attorney.

But he says Congress shouldn't rush to judgment on such an important appointment. Republican Senator Dick Lugar didn't comment on Miers' nomination.

Evan Bayh is headed back to Iowa. This trip is for state representative candidate events. Both events are the day after my birthday.

Via email, I found out that Anne Northup took $32,000 from Tom Delay in contributions. Ask her to return it.

Larry Joe Campbell will highlight the Central Michigan University homecoming next weekend.

Kentucky has Ashley Judd. Cincinnati has Nick Lachey. However, Indiana has John Mellencamp.

Just when you thought Hoeppner had run out of ideas for promoting IU football, he comes up with another – with help from rock singer and Hoosiers booster John Mellencamp.

Mellencamp, who lives on the shores of Lake Monroe near Bloomington, was talking with Hoeppner about the boisterous Memorial Stadium crowd for IU’s 38-14 victory over Kentucky. The result was "Mascot for the Day," where Hoosier fans can e-mail Hoeppner on why their child (12 years old and under) should be the mascot for the Illinois game.

Parents should answer the question, what is a Hoosier? Hoeppner will determine the winner -- he said he was looking for a description of why a child fits Mellencamp’s "Hoosier" definition of a young person with high hopes for the future – and that parent and child will receive two free tickets and a parking pass to the Illinois game. They’ll also accompany the team during its walk to Memorial Stadium.

Olsen, who attended the Manhattan school with her sis, Ashley, 19, is taking a break from her sophomore year, allegedly to do an independent study at an art school in California, reports NYU's student paper, the Washington Square News.

But hottie teen star Amanda Bynes just might fill the void. The 19-year-old What I Like About You star reportedly has applied to the school.

Rumor has it that the replacement for Peter Jennings will be either Bob Woodruff or Elizabeth Vargas. Bob Schieffer still is in the CBS anchor's seat despite the move being temporary.

In my mailbag, I learned that Kelly Ayotte has been been confirmed for another term as New Hampshire's attorney general.

Jack Carter is looking at a run for the US Senate. Carter is looking to make Senator John Ensign work for re-election. Carter is the son of the former president.

Jack Carter, the son of former President Carter, said Tuesday he plans to run against John Ensign for the U.S. Senate next year.

Carter, 58, and his wife, Elizabeth, have lived in Las Vegas since 2003, operating the investment consulting firm Carter Global.

"I'm very seriously exploring it," Carter said in an interview Tuesday. "I had not planned to run for office. I have no infrastructure and this is new to me."

Carter said he decided to run in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He said he was offended by the federal government's response to the disaster.

"I'm more concerned than ever with the way that the country is headed," Carter said.

Sources told the Review-Journal that Carter will meet next week with Sen. Harry Reid's staff to discuss the race. Reid, the Senate minority leader, has had a good working relationship with Ensign, the Republican completing his first term in office. Not only do the two senators' staffs work closely on Nevada issues, the two have forged a solid and collegial relationship.

Tropical Storm Tammy, the 19th storm in the Atlantic Ocean, has just formed off the Florida coast. The record for hurricanes is 21 named storms. We are getting very close to tieing the record. Hurricane season will not end until the end of November. Only a few more weeks and we will know what happens after a storm that starts with the letter Z.
