An anonymous source has confirmed that Dan Borsch will be a candidate for Congress. An announcement will be made prior to December 25th. This is good news for the 3rd Congressional District of Kentucky. Since Jack Conway ruled out a run, no one else has stepped up to the plate. If you recall, yesterday afternoon, I started up a Draft Dan Borsch website. I am pleased that he has chosen to enter his hat in the ring. It will be an uphill battle but I will work as hard as I can for Dan Borsch.

WKYT in Lexington has a write-up of last night's Clinton Fundraiser. Newsday has a similar writeup so I am guessing both are AP stories. Of course, the Courier-Journal also has a writeup of the event which raised about $600,000 for the party. Does anyone have the Biden numbers yet? What were the numbers for the Edwards event?

In a 53-minute address, Clinton criticized President Bush's economic policies. On Iraq, she said she opposes a timetable for withdrawing U.S. forces but called on Bush to take responsibility for "false assurances, faulty evidence and mismanagement" of the war. (Editor's note: How can anyone in the right mind oppose withdrawal of forces? This war is another Vietnam!)[...]

State Rep. Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, the House majority floor leader, said Clinton is the only senator he sees trying to find bipartisan solutions to health care, education funding and other matters of importance to working families.

"Those are the core principles of this Democratic Party that I think she is standing up for," Adkins said.[...]

Former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia said Clinton's visit shows the importance of Kentucky in turning around how Democrats fare in the country.

"Kentucky is in many ways the heart of the South, and as the South goes so goes the nation," Cleland said.

Despite some concern about perceptions of the former first lady, a number of the state's top Democrats attended, including Attorney General Greg Stumbo, state Treasurer Jonathan Miller, House Speaker Jody Richards and former U.S. Sen. Wendell Ford.

But others cited scheduling conflicts for not showing up, including state Auditor Crit Luallen and U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-6th District.[...]

State Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Lundergan said all 120 Kentucky counties were represented at the dinner.

"There is a perception out there that Hillary is perhaps more liberal than she actually is and that's because she's a woman and because of her health care efforts in 1993," said Louisville Democrat Jack Conway.

Conway was among more than a few who said they consider Clinton as the front-runner now for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Jerry Lundergan, the party chairman, noted that a Clinton won Kentucky during the 1992 and 1996 presidential races.

"And we can do it a third time," he said.

Am I reading that correctly? Did Chairman Jerry Lundergan endorse Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton for president in 2008? Please confirm as to whether or not I am taking the quote out of context. The way I read that is he endorsed her.

Back to politics, the Post takes a look at the Draft Ken Lucas efforts.

Lucas said earlier this week that he currently has no interest in his old office, but noted, "In politics, you never say never."

When reached Friday night, Lucas said he had nothing to say about the campaign.

Sources close to The Kentucky Democrat are saying that Lucas will probably be a candidate next year for Congress.
