The General Assembly is back in session today and you know what that means. It means that the legislative members have traveled far and wide to discuss important issues like the Louisville arena, legalized slots, and maybe even the hiring scandal. I didn't apply for press credentials nor do I plan to.

A 19-year-old from Danville maybe a future leader of Kentucky.

But he has slaked his thirst for politics by working two summers as an intern in U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler's Lexington office, where Corcoran did various clerical duties and kept Communications Director Jennifer Spalding up-to-date on news from the 6th District.

"Chris Corcoran is an outstanding individual, extremely intelligent, hard-working and articulate," Chandler said. "Chris will have a wonderful future in public service or whatever career path he decides to take."

Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, a former student vice president of the IOP -- he now serves on the IOP's senior advisory committee with fellow Kentuckian/U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao -- hopes Corcoran finds a niche for service in Kentucky.

"He's driven, he's intelligent, he's serious and he obviously has a lot of respect of his peers, and those characteristics will take you a long way," Grayson said.

For the moment, Corcoran is undecided what path he will take, although he expresses an interest in returning to Danville.

"I think I would enjoy being a prosecutor, but I have plenty of time to decide about that."
