Lady Cats take on Florida

The Lady Cats are taking on Florida. They are keeping it closer than the guys did last night. Towards the end, they started to lose their lead. Jenny Pfeiffer has not scored at all today until she got fouled. 40 seconds to go, down 63-55. Jenny is heating up but too little, too late. We lost 68-61.

A quick public service announcement: GO READ Dan Gerstein's article, Razing Kaine. I agree wholeheartedly with Dan that those that slandered Gov. Kaine as being a homophobe should apologize. Amen to that, Dan!

Peter Sullivan was in two candidate forums yesterday. Here's recap #1 and #2.

Sullivan, an attorney who is serving his third term in the state House of Representatives, said protecting the country from another terrorist attack is what he sees as one of the most important issues in the race.

He also expressed concerns over providing health care to all Americans and reforming pensions by allowing workers to have portable pensions in response to concerns raised about Social Security.

Protecting our country is something that I believe to be important whether those to the left of me agree or not. Our country has a lot of problems right now but some argue that we should take of domestic problems first rather than security or defense. The United States was attacked by terrorists in 2001. Candidates cannot be seen as weak on defense or national security. And we are still in Iraq. I did not favor going into Iraq like I did with Afghanistan. I'm no war hawk either but we have to do something about Iran and we cannot give the Palestinians any aid because they elected terrorists.

While they apologized for offending the Muslims, they have yet to apologize for offending my fellow Jews.

The Anti-Defamation League points out that: The U.N. designation of January 27 as a Holocaust memorial day was an occasion for many newspapers to run cartoons and columns that denied or downplayed the horrors of the Holocaust. Additionally, many newspaper articles accused Jews of using the Holocaust to justify the persecution of others.

Another reason to root for the Seattle Seahawks:

Jim Belushi talked mostly to Raley, but I stole some of his quotes. Belushi is pulling for the Seahawks because Dan Aykroyd is friends with Seahawks' owner Paul Allen.

He talked about how Pittsburgh seems mean and "Seattle is almost Canadian fercrisesakes, they're such nice guys."

Belushi had planned to go to Seattle for the NFC championship game if his beloved Bears had beaten the Panthers.

Here's what Belushi is really rooting for: certain numbers at the end of each quarter because he's involved in a football card that pays $150 for each quarter and $500 at the end of the game.

Belushi's supposed numbers: Seattle 0, Pittsburgh 3; Seattle 1, Pittsburgh 3; Seattle 7, Pittsburgh 6.

Kentucky state representative wants to put a ban on abortions. My take: keep it safe, legal, and rare.

Rep. Mary Lou Marzian, D-Louisville, said it showed "no respect" for women's privacy and would be unconstitutional. A return to the days when abortions were illegal would jeopardize women's safety, Marzian said.

"When abortion was outlawed in the past, it led to the death and maiming of women," Marzian said. "And if that's what they want to return to - back-alley abortions - I think it's a real sad day in this country."

State Rep. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington, who has opposed limits on abortion said the reconstituted Supreme Court may have given hope to anti-abortion advocates. Nevertheless, Stein said it was possible election year politics could add some momentum behind Wuchner's proposal.

"It's a big election year," Stein said. "This is the biggest ballot we've had in years, and I think that there are many of my colleagues who are willing to jump on the bandwagon and sell out the women of Kentucky."
