Ben Chandler to stay neutral in US Senate race

Per Alessi on Pol Watchers:
Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler won't endorse or work against a candidate in the 8-person field of Democrats seeking the party's nomination to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, a spokesman said.

Chandler initially was referenced by the Southern Political Report's analysis preview of the '08 elections as backing Bruce Lunsford. But that reference has since been removed in an updated version.

Stephanie Pepper, Chandler's spokeswoman, said Chandler also won't work against any candidate, including his old nemesis Lunsford, by making phone calls to urge his camp to back another candidate. Chandler and Lunsford squared off in an expensive and brutal Democratic primary for governor in 2003, in which Lunsford later backed Republican Ernie Fletcher against Chandler.

"He's not endorsed any Democratic candidate in the primary and doesn't plan to," Pepper said of Chandler.
