Rip: Peter Jennings (1938-2005)

Last night, we lost Peter Jennings to lung cancer. It's been a sad day watching tributes online and on television. Frankly, I'm speechless. I thought he'd make a return to television and beat the cancer. Sadly, he didn't beat it. I never would have thought that the Great Triumvirate of Broadcasting would have stepped out of the spotlight within months of each other (Brokaw in December 2004, Rather in March 2005, and Jennings in April 2005). My condolences go out to his wife, Katie, and tehir two children Chris and Liz. May Peter Jennings rest in peace.

The news must go on.

In 1964, during the Beatles' American tour, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney actually broke down in tears in grief of their mothers who had died when they were younger.

Benjamin Netanyahu has resigned as Finance Minister. Look for him to try for Prime Minister again during the next election.

In St. Louis news, Tony LaRussa is only 10 wins shy of Sparky Anderson. Rookie Anthony Reyes will start tommorrow night so the starters can get some rest.

In Red Sox news, Roberto Petagine went 6-7 years in between MLB hits. His last hit before last night was on September 27, 1998.

Coldplay's Chris Martin was very nervous as they kicked off the American tour. I've never witnessed a musician forget lyrics during a concert.
The singer stumbled while singing TIL' KINGDOM COME - a hidden track on their new album X+Y - in Hartford, Connecticut, on Thursday night.

Martin joked to fans afterwards, "Oh, now you'll get us voted off AMERICAN IDOL."

The singer also struggled with the heat onstage and had to make a number of costume changes, which prompted the comment, "We're getting close to a CELINE DION concert.

"If you want a refund for all the sweat you've seen tonight, you get 50 cents for each litre that comes off us."
