I just got back a bit before midnight, and I'm not upset that I missed my television programming last night, or the first half-hour of Saturday Night Live.
First, the Democratic Get Together at Chez Nora's was fun. It was nice meeting some members of the state central committee last night. Because of the rain, some of them stayed at the hotel near the airport. I got to meet a lot of folks for the first time since the campaign season last year, some for the first time since Family Day, and some, well, you get the picture.
I haven't heard much about how the State Central Committee Meeting went this morning.
The 1st annual Young Democratic Leadership Summitt was today at Newport on the Levee. There were some interesting speakers today. Kim Glenn organized it and I thought it was well-thought and well-planned. Campbell Co. Commissioner Ken Rechtin delivered the welcoming address to those in attendence. YDA DNC Committeewoman Lauren B. Goode delivered a message to us as well. Renee Shaw, host of Connections with Renee Shaw moderated a panel on the future of the Democratic Party featuring: Rep. Reginald Meeks, Wanda Mitchell-Smith, Bennie Doggett, Jamie Jameson, Antonio Mazzaro, and Jean-Marie Lawson. Mary Andres Russell taught leadershop training with the topic of "Success through Integrity."
During lunch, we organized a new Northern Kentucky Young Democrats chapter and elected a board.
President: Jamie Jameson
Vice President: Jon Wright
Secretary: Daniel Solzman
Treasurer: Clare Ploucha
Rep. Tommy Thompson delievered the keynote address. Jamie Emmons, a political consultant, lead a political skills training session on volunteering. All in all, it was a great event.
During the latter half of the summitt following the State Central Committee meeting, we were joined by KYD President Jack Walker KDP Chairman Jerry Lundergan, political consultant Dale Emmons, former state party chairman Steve Gold. Other KYD officers in attendence were Executive Director Chad Aull, Vice President Terrell Renfro, Treasurer Kyle Gott, and National Committeewoman Courtney French.
