NJDC longtime leader Ira Forman resigns

Ira Forman, the longtime of the National Jewish Democratic Council, has resigned as executive director according to the Washington Jewish Week.

Ira Forman, the National Jewish Democratic Council's longtime leader, announced his resignation today, effective immediately.

Forman will be replaced by David Harris, the political group's president.

After leading the organization for nearly 15 years, Forman said in a press release that he is moving on to pursue "a number of related passions," which include possibly writing a book about Jews in politics.

The announcement comes somewhat unexpectedly, and, according those I've briefly spoken with, is surprising.

Forman's leadership will be missed.

David Harris' bio from NJDC:

David Harris serves as the President of the National Jewish Democratic Council, having previously worked as NJDC’s Deputy Executive Director for seven years. Mr. Harris also served in Washington as the Executive Director of the Israel on Campus Coalition; as the Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for the American Jewish Congress; and as Washington Representative for the Israel Policy Forum, among other positions. Mr. Harris began his career in electoral politics working as a campaign manager during the 1992 congressional campaign cycle, going on to work with the late Senator Paul Simon.
