2006: Greg Maddux may retire

Former Brave Greg Maddux will decide this winter about his pending retirement. I hate to say it since he is a Cub, but he is hall-bound.

Not good for St. Louis. They lost yesterday and are down by one run in the 5th today. Every position player got a hit yesterday, marking the 5th time since the break.

In Red Sox news, they have sold out 200 consecutive games at home since May 15, 2003. It is the 2rd longest in MLB history. They will pass up Colorado shortly as the Rockies sold out 203 games from 1995-97.

While not selling out, the Beatles were motivated by money.
But despite their irreverent approach, McCartney insists they never sold out and poured their heart and soul into every single note.

He says, "The joke used to be, 'OK let's write a swimming pool!' It was great motivation. 'OK, what have you got?' (sings) 'Eight days a week...' 'Go on, that's a swimming pool!' Haha, great fun. But you've to be able to take it lightly.

"Then in the next three hours, HELP! appears from nowhere, you'd suddenly get the idea this'll be a hit. You became aware you were making money. Making good money.

"But obviously these were just jokes we made to keep ourselves sane and comfortable. We actually were writing what we considered to be art. That was the bottom line."
Not good news via JTA:
Hamas said it won't give up its weapons after Israel's Gaza withdrawal, so it can force Israel out of additional territory.

The Palestinian Authority and Hamas agreed to limit the scale of celebrations over Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Senator Bayh's recent trip to the state of Iowa will be on CSPAN - this upcoming Sunday, August 14th, at 6:30pm EST.

Westchester County DA Jeanine Pirro will be running against Clinton.

Now for the joke of the week sent to my inbox:
In an effort to overcome the continuing criticism that he is un-supportive and in fact dismissive of Israel, today President Bush announced that he is converting to Judaism in the hope that this will demonstrate his affinity and empathy with the Israeli people.

Authorities have been unable to handle the millions of applicants who volunteered to be the Moyel.
