Steve Henry and the FEC

Former Lt. Governor Steve Henry has gotten into some hot water with the Federal Election Commission.

Mark Hebert originally reported the following this morning:
WHILE HENRY IS TRYING TO RAISE MONEY TO RUN FOR KENTUCKY GOVERNOR, HE MAY BE FACING AN INQUIRY BY FEDERAL ELECTION WATCHDOGS.

HENRY STILL HAS AN OPEN FUND RAISING COMMITTEE FOR HIS FAILED U.S. SENATE RACE. IN A JUNE LETTER, THE FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION ORDERED HENRY TO EITHER RUN FOR U.S. SENATE OR QUIT TAKING CONTRIBUTIONS. HENRY WAS ORDERED TO RESPOND BY JULY 31ST, BUT NEVER DID ACCORDING TO AN F-E-C SPOKESWOMAN.
Hebert later added the following:
HENRY TELLS WHAS 11 NEWS HE NEVER PERSONALLY SAW THE LETTER BUT HIS ACCOUNTANT DID.

HENRY SAYS THE ACCOUNTANT HAD MADE A SIMPLE MISTAKE, CHECKING ONE WRONG BOX, WHILE FILING A QUARTERLY REPORT, LEADING THE F-E-C TO BELIEVE HENRY WAS RUNNING FOR OFFICE IN 2006. HENRY SAYS THAT PROBLEM HAS BEEN CLEARED UP. AN F-E-C SPOKESWOMAN WOULDN'T CONFIRM THAT BUT DID SAY HENRY COULD BE HIT WITH CIVIL PENALTIES IF THE F-E-C DETERMINES HE BROKE FEDEREAL ELECTION LAWS. HENRY DOESN'T BELIEVE HE BROKE ANY LAWS.
Here is the June letter. No 2006 year end report was filed either.
