The OC

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports in the Buzz that:
One of "The O.C.'s" characters is about to come out of the closet. Marissa, played by Mischa Barton, 18, will enter a lesbian relationship on the Fox series early next year.
"Marissa is at a point in her life where she's trying to find herself and her true identity," series creator Josh Schwartz told Out.com.
I guess we know who will not be watching the show.
In other news, Senator Daschle's South Dakota offices close today.
Retiring Congressman Richard "Dick" Gephardt was honored last night in St. Louis, Missouri.
Gephardt, Missouri's most powerful Democrat, easily shed tears of laughter with family and friends while watching old newscasts this week of his younger, less-emotive self.
He followed up Thursday night with tears of gratitude and nostalgia while listening to the parade of praise from some of the nation's biggest names - including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., August A. Busch III and IV and singer Michael Bolton - who showed up by video or in person to bid him farewell.
The congressman receieved much praise last night.
Clinton, featured in the video, said Gephardt deserved "the lion's share of credit" for Congress' one-vote passage of the 1993 tax package. Democrats say that plan revitalized the nation's economy, briefly erased federal budget deficits - and contributed to the Republican takeover of Congress a year later.
McCain lauded his character: "Dick Gephardt's word you can take to the bank."
Broadcaster Bob Costas, who narrated the video, summed up the evening's sentiment by calling Gephardt "the best president America never had." Commentator Paul Begala, a former aide who was master of ceremonies, praised Gephardt as one "who embodies integrity."
While much of the ceremony did honor the retiring Congressman and former presidential candidate, the money raised will go into the formation of the Richard A. Gephardt Institute of Public Service at Washington University of St. Louis. Maybe he'll have a public email address now? I hope so.
While I am an Indianapolis Colts fan, you might want to know that Rep. Gephardt is a reason for the Rams moving to St. Louis.
Gephardt and his staff also spearheaded the effort a decade ago that persuaded the Rams football team to move to St. Louis from California.
As he mulls over his future, Gephardt said, he's focusing on his family more than finances. He is taking his time reviewing a number of offers from law and investment firms. He expects to continue traveling, as he makes speeches to various groups and participates as a new board member with the National Endowment for Democracy.
He expects to continue to maintain homes in suburban St. Louis and Washington and shuttle back and forth.
I am watching the debate on C-SPAN on the future of the Democratic Party. It is very interesting.
President Bush has asked Treasury Deputy Secretary Samuel Bodman to serve as Secretary of Energy.
