Another one bites the dust

It seems that the Bush Cabinet is dropping like flies. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson has resigned.

Mark McClellan, the government's Medicare chief and brother of White House press secretary Scott McClellan, is Thompson's likely successor, officials said.

Thompson's resignation brings to eight the number of members of Bush's 15-member Cabinet who have left.

Here is an interesting tidbit--that I learned from Corey at Politics1.com (I dug some dirt on the internet):

A difficult personal time for Thompson and his family came earlier this year when his daughter Tommi, then 33, underwent surgery for breast cancer, becoming the third generation in the family to battle the disease. While enlisting expert opinions on her case, Thompson lamented that even as HHS chief, "pretty much, your hands are tied to prevent this from happening to someone you love very much."

Tommi Thompson is finance director for the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation, which Sue Ann Thompson, the secretary's wife, created in 1997 to highlight issues from heart disease to nutrition and disease prevention.

May she get well soon.

Do we really need two McClellans high up in the Administration? A better choice for this cabinet position is the carpetbagging Sen. Hilary Clinton of NY. She knows "a thing or two about healthcare" as she said during the Convention.

Speaking of New York Senators, Yahoo News is reporting that 60 year old Palestinian Immigrant Sirhan Sirhan's lawyer is suing to prevent the hotel where Senator Robert F. Kennedy was killed from getting demolished. Sirhan's lawyer, Lawrence Teeter, claims the walls will prove Sirhan is innocent. For other reasons, the Assassination Archives and Research Center and the newly-formed Committee to Preserve Assassination Sites have joined Teeter in his suit.

Kennedy's family is calling for a school to be built on the site in Bobby's memory. I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the Kennedy family but calling for this site to be demolished would mean calling for the 6th Floor Museum in Dallas, Ford's Theatre in DC, and the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis to be demolished. They are all historical sites and I believe should remain intact. Turn it into a museum. I haven't made it out there to see the Ambassador Hotel quite yet but I have been to the others.

In the sports world, Yahoo News reports that Jason Giambi might be terminated by the New York Yankees for admitting to steroid use during his testimony to a grand jury.
