Ten Days til spring training

Are you ready? Do you know where your gloves are? Jersey? What about that St. Louis cap? The Cubs Useless by September Shirt? You gotta have that shirt! In my case, it's the Got Rings one. Now that football has ended and college football never really went off well, and college basketball hasn't really been going well, baseball is all I have left. I don't follow pro basketball that much except during the playoffs.

Speaking of sports, the SEC released the schedule today for the fall.

Yes, KY-4 is also a race to watch. We'll see how quickly Rep. Davis goes towards the exit.

Mazel Tov to both Bob Wiltfong and Jon Stewart. Bob became a father to a son yesterday while Jon Stewart's wife gave birth to a daughter. Did Stephen Colbert really work at WPTS in Patterson Springs, North Carolina when his wife gave birth? Newsweek puts Stephen Colbert on the "golden corner" of the cover today for the truthiness. Colbert is a Steelers fan?!? That's news to me.

The house bill passed with regards to protesting at funerals.

The state of Missouri is starting up a scholars program. Did Sen. Bayh start a trend? Iowa is doing something. Wisconsin did something to (I think - could be wrong). Now Missouri.
Missouri House Democrats on Monday proposed an innovative college scholarship program that promotes personal responsibility and the importance of remaining drug and alcohol free to Missouri youth.

The 21st Century Scholars legislation is being sponsored by state Rep. Rachel Storch, D-St. Louis, and House Minority Leader Jeff Harris, D-Columbia. Under the program, students who pledge not to use alcohol or drugs and meet other criteria are guaranteed state college tuition assistance. The idea is part of the education component of the Democratic Caucus’ Moving Missouri Forward legislative agenda for 2006.[...]

The scholars program was first launched in Indiana in the early 1990s by then-Gov. Evan Bayh, who is now a Democratic U.S. Senator. Sen. Bayh has endorsed Missouri House Democrats’ efforts to expand his idea to this state.

"A college diploma is the ticket to success in the 21st century," Bayh said. "We’ve been helping students in Indiana realize their goal of a college education for 16 years through the 21st Century Scholars program, and I am proud to see Missouri joining us in our efforts. Across the country, other states who have heard about Indiana’s success are following our lead to ensure that more children have the skills needed to succeed in the future, and I plan to support their work."
