Senator Evan Bayh will be appearing today on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on ABC. As such, I'm up earlier than usual to blog it.
The first topic is about Iowa. Bayh cites Richard Holbrooke as being right on the problem. It's up to the Iraqis to decide what they want. Essentially, we have to keep the pressure on them. Bayh would do the opposite of Bush - "We're not staying forever."
Bayh says we are going to start the process of now (within the next few months) of withdrawing the troops and he would review the stability and all. If it's more infighting, Richard Holbrooke was right.
Bayh says President Bush's comments are not acceptable for this country.
Turning the attention to Iowa...Sen. Bayh announced that he will form a presidential exploratory committee which allows him to test the waters and raise the funds to run for president. In doing so, under federal law, he can transfer all the funds in his Senate account to a presidential committee account.
George asks about likability. Bayh says that the folks in Iowa and New Hampshire get to know you personally. Bayh says that as the people get to know him, they will like him. Bayh cites his experience and calls it similar to David and Goliath.
It's now official by the man himself, Bayh will officially be in the race this week as he will form that important exploratory committee.
