Bayh on The Situation Room

Sen. Bayh is appearing on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

They are talking about the power shift and Iraq.

Senator Bayh says we need to be direct with Iraq and that the US will begin to withdraw the troops. The timing depends on stability in Iraq. He says we'll leave sooner rather than later.

As to the timetable, he is in agreement with Sen. Levin that we should begin in four to sixth months to redeploy the troops.

The election results do help with regards to a more assertive policy towards Iraq.

He said to put everything on the table and see what can be done. He said that Iraq is not doing his job.

Exploratory committee: "Will you forgive me if it's not today?" No formal announcement until about the end of the year from what he is saying.

"A successful two-term governor with national security experience with a proven track record."

"The question is who gives us the best chance."
