Rundown on the PVA appointment

The Jefferson County PVA is in need of a replacement since Denise Harper Angel was elected to the state senate. The C-J has the scoop. Former County Commissioner Russ Maple did not pass the test. However, he is oing to try again in November.
Maple, 67, who has wide name recognition and extensive government experience, said yesterday that "I guess my test-taking skills need work."

Maple said he was disappointed but noted "the governor wasn't going to appoint me, anyway."
Potential Republican Replacements:
Doug Hawkins - Councilman (25)
Griffin Torrance - an assistant to County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw
John May - Greater Louisville Association of Realtors past president
Jim Evans - real estate consultant
Tom Riddle - former state representative (Okolona)
William F. Lippy - former U.S. Treasury Department appraiser who also passed the test and a former Democrat

Democrats who passed the test but won't get it under a Republican Governor:
Brian Butler - field representative for the PVA's office, son of former Jefferson PVA Bob Butler
Donna Hunt - PVA office's chief deputy
Tony Lindauer - former candidate old Louisville Board of Aldermen.
Melvin Ratchford - a longtime PVA office worker and former county Democratic chairman (He and Maple will probably run in 2006 for a full term)

Rob Robertson is currently serving as the interim Jefferson PVA.
