Cardinals Sweep Padres in 3

Matt Morris won his first game this postseason as the St. Louis Cardinals swept the San Diego Padres in Game 3. Through 6 innings, Morris struck out 4 and gave up two runs. Brad Thompson, Randy Flores, and Julian Taverez combined for two earned runs. As expected, Jason Isringhausen came in for the save.

Cardinals hitting caused Woody Williams to leave before the end of two innings after giving up 5 earned runs.

How the Cardinals scored:
Albert Pujols doubled to deep right, David Eckstein scored (1st inning)
David Eckstein homered to deep left, Matt Morris scored (2nd inning)
Reggie Sanders doubled to deep left, Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols scored, Larry Walker to third (2nd inning)
Yadier Molina singled to right, Mark Grudzielanek and Abraham Nunez scored (5th inning)

Some excerpts from the AP article:
There is no MVP award for the first round -- but if there was, Sanders certainly would have won.

He drove in two more runs to set an NL division series record with 10, and little David Eckstein hit his first career postseason homer as the Cardinals chased former teammate Woody Williams before he could get out of the second inning.

Right-hander Matt Morris, who's been with the Cardinals since 1997 and is their longest-tenured player, recovered from his late-season struggles to hold the Padres hitless for 4 1-3 innings. With two on in the bottom of the ninth, Jason Isringhausen struck out Brian Giles and retired Ryan Klesko on a comebacker to earn his 10th career postseason save.
