Evidently, G-d never told Bush...

The Almighty never told the President to go read Isaiah 2:4 where it states word for word: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore."

President Bush apparently believes he is a prophet and a messenger of G-d's will. I disagree. A prophet would never move to destruct a nation.

Jews care about Darfur. We don't want to see the mass genocide anymore. I applaud Congressman Wexler for his leadership in this effort. Over two million are dying. Join American Jewish leaders in asking the President to use his power to help end genocide once and for all.
The group is also calling for regular State Department reports on the situation in Sudan and the effectiveness of U.S. efforts.

Most major Jewish groups have signed on to the coalition; Jewish participants range from the Orthodox Union to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. The political coalition behind the effort is just as broad; it includes Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans), an ardent conservative, and Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.), a liberal.

That broad coalition is necessary “to keep the pressure up and to show the administration that there really is a big constituency out there that wants the U.S. to play an assertive role in stopping the killing,” said Martin Raffel, assistant director of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), who attended last week’s Darfur meetings.
The lawyer for Daniel Groves believes the blanket pardons apply to Fletcher officials indicted after the pardons. First, why is this listed under the Kentucky Derby online? Shouldn't this be in the local news section and not sports?

What in the world? Emory's SGA has declared war on Washington University in St. Louis. The Daily Show may be doing a news segment on this in future weeks. Okay, this is completely absurd.

Free Zone will be featured at the Chicago Film Festival. This film caused chaos during filming when Natalie Portman shared a kiss at the Western Wall. This is a subtitled film.

Sen. Daschle has turned against the Sarbanes-Oxley act, an act in which the former Senator advocated for while in the Senate.

I'm proud to be a Jew. I daven twice daily (Mincha and Maariv) and always say the Shema when I arise and when I sleep. Israel is not on the back of my mind, it's at the front.
Even more bad news – Israel takes a seat way in the back of the bus for most of these A-listers. Unless they have a specific connection like Natalie Portman, who says she always feels more Jewish when she's in Israel, or are involved on some political level like Wallace, who claims to recite the "Shema" every night, Israel is not on the radar in any form in regards to Jewish identity.[...]

And there are equally riveting anecdotes – like Tom Petty throwing a rock star's tantrum at the King David Hotel in 1987 because he couldn't get his customary bacon and eggs for breakfast – his drummer Lynch used it as an example of how isolating he felt to be a Jew in an non-Jewish touring environment. "I was a Jew in Israel with a bunch of guys it didn't mean squat to, while it was some sort of pilgrimage to me."
Jon Stewart definitely doesn't help us when he WORKS on Rosh HaShanah.

The Indiana Democratic Party has sent the following email out detailing Governor Kernan's portrait unveiling.
Please join former Governor Joe Kernan and Maggie Kernan at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 28 in the South Atrium of the Indiana State House for a very brief ceremony and the unveiling of Governor Kernan's official state portrait.
Governor Howard Dean sent out a Rosh HaShanah greeting.
"Tonight Jews around the world begin celebrating Rosh Hashanah and welcoming these High Holy Days while reflecting on the past year.

"This year we have seen the spirit of mankind tested in many ways including war, natural disasters, economic hardships, and genocide. Now more than ever it is important to renew our values and commitment to our faith.

"All can join in the spirit of this Holy time to examine where we have come up short in our obligations to others and to recommit ourselves to helping the less fortunate among us.

"Before I left Israel two weeks ago, we joined to recite a classic prayer thanking God for sustaining us and bringing us to this season - the Shechecheyanu.

"This prayer will be offered again during the coming days as Jews throughout the world will use this time to renew their spirits and take stock of the past year. As the sun dips below the horizon this evening, my family joins me in wishing all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah a happy, healthy and peaceful new year. L'shanah Tovah."
Thank you, Governor, for your statement.

Mr. President, shame on you! Shame on you for siding with Iran over a bombing of a Jewish community!
At a time when Iran's nuclear program is a top American priority, the Bush administration appears to have backed Tehran in a fight over the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center in Argentina.

According to Argentine Jewish leaders and media reports, the United States sided with Iran last week in a secret vote to downgrade international police alerts calling for the arrest of Iranian officials wanted by Argentina for their alleged role in the 1994 bombing, which killed 85 and wounded more than 300. The vote, taken by the General Assembly of Interpol, the 182-country international police agency, canceled the top-level alert for arrest warrants issued by Argentina against 12 Iranians in 2003. Interpol's executive committee suspended the so-called red notices last fall and recently recommended their annulment by the General Assembly, the top governing body of the agency.
More on LINK. Apparently, staff at the GOP headquarters have moved in at the Capitol.
Steve Robertson, a former campaign consultant for the party and its research coordinator, became deputy director of the Governor's Office for Local Development Monday.

In addition to distributing grants to local communities, that department oversees the governor's statewide outreach staff -- which became a main focus of the investigation into administration hiring practices.

Fletcher said last month he was "disbanding" that organization, which had been called Local Initiatives for a New Kentucky, or LINK. Documents showed that LINK representatives were involved in recruiting and vetting candidates based on political loyalties for rank-and-file state merit jobs.[...]

But a Democratic legislator said that having Robertson and Williams, the former Kentucky Republican Party chairman, in charge of the local outreach office infuses more politics into an agency that has drawn fire for being too politically active.

"How many more folks to re-elect the governor is he going to pay with taxpayer dollars?" asked Rep. Kathy Stein, of Lexington. "It just seems to me with all the scrutiny both by citizens and journalists, that now is the time to make sure that his administration is completely squeaky clean."
Charlie Rangel was dissed by Vice President Cheney.

With Sukkot coming up, lulavs are in a shortage.
American legislators, Israeli officials and Jewish groups are working diplomatic channels in an effort to stave off a looming lulav shortage ahead of Sukkot.
Their efforts follow a surprise move by Egypt, which — after years as the world’s primary supplier of the palm fronds that form the spine of the ritual lulav — said it no longer would provide the leaves to suppliers in the United States, Israel and beyond.

"We’ve got everybody on the case, and I told them to shake a leg," Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) told JTA, pun intended.

Ackerman has raised the issue in meetings with the Egyptian ambassador to the United States and America’s ambassador to Egypt, and says he also has put a call in to Osama el Baz, a top political adviser to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
This is not good news.
