Update on 2007 Treasurer's race

Pol Watchers has this update for us. Brandon Smith is probably going to be a Republicann candidate, at least in the primary, and it doesn't look like he will be bashing the performance of current State Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Miller.
"Jonathan's done a fantastic job," Smith said. "I think we can build on that."

A host of people have expressed some interest in running for that open post, including several Republicans: former administrative office of the courts director Melinda Wheeler, revenue commissioner Marian Davis, Lexington lawyer Scott Crosbie and state Rep. Ken Upchurch of Monticello. So far, no Republicans have filed their official paperwork with the Secretary of State's office.

Patrick Dunmire, a Frankfort Democrat, already has filed his papers to run for that post. Other Democrats considering a run are Henderson lawyer Steve Gold, former Lexington mayor Teresa Isaac and Elizabethtown financial consultant and insurance agent Matt Wyatt.
I've made not secret of this. Should Steve Gold decide to run, he will have my support.
